Me and Mama took a taxi from the north of Gaza to the Rafah border where the journey took about 45 mins on Salah Al Deen street. Which was full of missiles in the sky and not knowing what kind of missiles they were. It has felt like the longest journey I have ever taken in my life. But Mama was with me so I felt relatively safe. On the way to the border we stopped by in Khan younis we met with uncle Manar who was with my cousin Nadia to say goodbye to them.
uncle Manar told me that this day is going to be historic and they will never be forgotten. Me and my mum managed to get to the Rafah border with extreme difficulty. We made it through the Palestinian hall of customs really quickly then on the Egyptian side there was a fair bit of waiting but at nearly 1 minute to four pm my passport and my mum’s got called out, then an official Israeli press release came out at 4 pm for the border to shut indefinitely. I felt a really bad feeling that something unprecedented will happen to my home town as things did not feel in order at all. Then we took a bus from outside the Egyptian border in Rafah to try and reach Cairo , me and my mum were terrified and shaken. We had spent time eating our dinner at a modest fish restaurant called Bassatta and then we carried on to the ferry on the Egyptian side, it was so sad to say good bye to Gaza not knowing what brutal future is yet to come. The journey took us 5 hours and it felt much longer than that. I have felt a mixture of emotions like sadness and guilt for leaving immediate family behind.
